The BIM 2050 group: Mission and Tasks

The BIM 2050 group: Mission and Tasks

In 2010, the United Nations was concerned with the sociological forecast that by 2050 the population will grow up to 10 billion. This is 20% more than now. Accordingly, the demand for real estate will increase by the same percentage. In addition, the number of urban population will grow: about 70% will live in cities. Thus, the construction industry (architectural, design) will receive a number of new missions and tasks. These areas will meet industrial needs of the population. Large-scale construction will be required greatly in the future: the urban population will grow, existing buildings will require either reconstruction or demolition and the construction of new ones.

Why is BIM in the foundation? This method has been successfully used in automobile and ship construction for long, and recently it was also adapted to the construction of buildings.

This computer digital method can make building faster, safer, more economical, more environmentally friendly, and therefore is better. BIM can solve some future industrial problems as well as it will help to identify and eliminate errors during the planning process. In practice, this model will cover all aspects of the building, including waste management, resources, fire safety. The obtained data will be convenient to use throughout the life cycle of the building.

The BIM 2050 group has set a number of fundamental tasks. Here are the main ones:

  • to develop a culture that will allow the use of digital integrated method;
  • implement a digital reform that will have a positive impact on the environment;

The BIM 2050 group work in the following areas to accomplish these tasks:

  • education;
  • abilities and skills;
  • technologies;
  • processes;
  • cultural integration.

The group also feals with the risks and challenges the world faces due to innovations. There is a certain appeal to construction companies to pay attention to the problems raised and to take them into account in their activities.
